- THE CRYSTALLIC CHRONICLES -
STORY OF CREATION

This Story of Creation will not necessarily let you experience all the exciting adventures of the main character, Orianna, but it can help bring more context to each book in the series and help you understand the world in which they take place. You may or may not see this story come to life as you start making connections to what you read here and where the stories evolve to in the books. Either way, please enjoy this beautiful story that is near and dear to Mila's heart.

STORY OF IDYLLIUM'S CREATION

And It Begins...

Come and listen carefully, my child, to what I have to say.

What is one of the most important questions we ask ourselves?
   Do you know? No.
Such a silly child you are.
Of course, it is… how did it all begin?

At some point we ask ourselves this question. Sometimes out of curiosity, or perhaps to determine what will happen at the end. In any case, this question has been the focal point for many worlds. Our world is no different from others. Idyllium has based all its traditions and laws on this one question.

Perhaps you have not heard of our tale. Well in that case, let me start from the beginning. It all started when the first world came into existence. Out of the darkness came the light which contained what we called the supreme beings, or suprema. Whether these beings were gods or some other form of existence is unclear. All that is known is that they were at the world’s very beginning, and so in our turn, they are our creators. These beings roamed the barren world for centuries. Over time they felt the world was too desolate, too bare…too quiet. They choose to build upon this world.

They began with oceans and seas in hopes to drown out the silence with the sound of waves. To deal with the desolation, the suprema created life within the roaring waters. The beings felt content with what they had made, but over time the seas became restless. The suprema began to fear the strength of water and that one day it may overcome them. So, they chose to create an obstacle to the sea’s strength. The suprema called this land.

The suprema spawned vegetation in the land that towered over the oceans. The flora began to use the water to grow and flourish throughout the world. Soon the land began to adapt and create diversity without need from the suprema, which greatly pleased our creators. However, all that life began to run unchecked and became as destructive as once the sea had been. Again, the suprema found themselves in a difficult predicament. Soon, they found the solution.

The suprema provided their final gift to this world, fire. Fire had both the power to create and destroy. It was able to keep the plants at bay while still providing the ability to create life. Though fire was difficult to control, the suprema made it so that fire was vulnerable to the sea. Therefore, these three entities, the sea, land, and fire, worked as one to provide balance to the world. The sea was controlled by the land, land was controlled by fire, and fire was controlled by the sea. Perfect unity was finally attained.

Once balance was maintained, all life began to flourish in the world. Animals were found both on the land and sea. They could be found deep underground or even high in the trees. Some of the life was so large they towered over even the tallest trees while others were so small they could barely be seen, even if right next to your own feet. Even with all this amazing diversity of life, the beings still wished for more. They wished for life to emulate themselves. Creatures that could build, could create, could...love. They wanted creatures that could walk with them, talk with them, and learn from them. They also wished for a diverse group of creatures to survive any harsh conditions this new world may send their way.

So, the suprema used their power once more and made something extraordinary. New life. New creatures. These new creatures loved the beings and the beings loved them in return. The suprema taught these creatures about the world, and to the suprema’s glee the creatures asked many questions. Something surprising happened—their new creation learned far more quickly than expected. In fact, they learned so quickly they began to no longer need help from their creators. Instead, these new creatures ventured out on their own to create new things even beyond the imagination of the suprema.

Some suprema became upset by this sudden change. Many felt their new creations were ungrateful for everything given to them. These suprema believed their creation should worship them.

The creatures responded, “Why must we worship you?”
Some suprema answered, “Because we created you!”

The creatures argued, “We can create our own babes, but we do not force them to worship us. Instead, we ask for only their love and in return we love them. Just as you once loved us.”

Many of the suprema agreed with the thoughts shared by their creation and truly wished only for their love. Yet, there were still many who craved the power that came from being revered. So if their creation refused to bend their knees, then the suprema believed it was time to destroy the world and begin anew..

    Thus began the first war.

On one side was the supremas creation fighting for their freedom with those suprema who wished for love and respect from said creation. The other side were those suprema who wished for power and strength. Both sides held great power and with that power caused great destruction. It was a war that devastated the entire world and it went on for centuries. There seemed to be no end in sight, until one day.

The suprema that fought with their creation gave some of their power away. Their creation was no longer work, but strong and suitable foe against their one true enemy. With the power of the suprema and their own creation working with them, their enemies no longer had a chance of winning. The war finally ended, but sadly not until the world had been scarred with much loss of life.

The power-hungry suprema were banished from the world. After their departure all celebrated the peace that followed. It did not last long, however. Those of the suprema who remained feared what may happen in the future. They could not trust themselves to not turn on their creation again. In the end, they chose to leave and give their power to the creatures who had proven themselves worthy of such a gift.

They knew their power was too great to be given to just one being, so they chose to divide the power into a specific form, crystals. Each piece was given to a different creature. One was given to those who thrive in the water, another to those who can harness fire, and finally one was given to those who care for the forest.

However, the beings knew this power might be needed to save the world in the future. Due to this belief, they decided to give the key to bringing the crystals together to the most innocent creature in the world, a human child. This child would be known as the bearer of the crystal and, when the time came, would unite all the creatures of the world.

Eons have passed making this story into legend, but even so we still celebrate a child becoming the bearer of the crystal. We will do so until the day when such a child uses their power to save the world as has been foretold by our loving creators, or until the end of the world.
